The Romanesque frescoes

Whole painted apses from the eleventh and twelfth centuries, taken down from village churches and rebuilt here room by room.

Gothic and beyond

Floor after floor of Gothic altarpieces, later painting and modern-era work; two hours go by faster than you will expect.

The terrace

The steps and rooftop terrace in front of the palace give one of the definitive views over the city, and they are free to everyone.
