Montjuïc Castle

The star-shaped fortress has watched over, and at times aimed at, the city for three centuries; the walk of the ramparts is the payoff.

The ramparts

The circuit of the outer walls gives a full turn of the port, the sea and the whole southern city, from under two hundred metres up.

A heavy history

The castle served as a prison and execution ground under the dictatorship, and it is now city property and an official site of memory.

The moat and grounds

The wide dry moat hosts open-air cinema in summer and events year-round, and the paths around it are free to walk at any hour.
